On Sept. 11th, at Ground zero, Hatzolah Volunteer Ambulance had over 35 ambulances respond; over 250 EMT's & 55 Paramedics. The first ambulance to arrive at the scene after the first plane exploded in the towers was an HATZOLAH ambulance (ES-3)!
Although, many members suffered injuries, a few serious, with the help and the watchful eye of Hakodosh Baruch Hu, Hatzolah members lives were spared from this horrific day. Every member was Boruch Hashem accounted for.
Boro Park Hatzolah had the MERV (Mobile Emergency Response Vehicle) at Ground-Zero which was severely damaged.
For many of us, we can't forget the images and tragedies that we witnessed on that day. It will be forever engraved in our minds, seeing the images transmitted in the media, doesn’t come close to seeing it 'live' - picking up injured patients, transporting them to the hospital. Seeing human remains all over the streets, not being able to breath, see, hear - it was a nightmare to say the least.
Ever since Sept. 11th, Hatzolah has implemented training for all members on MCIs (Mass Casualty Incident), including on Bio/Chemical training by the FDNY (fire dept.), NYPD (police dept.), ESU, OEM (Office of Emergency Management), FBI and DHS (Department of Homeland Security). These training seminars and exercises are done frequently.
The NYPD and the OEM requested us to notify the public to be their eyes and ears that if you see something, say something: Call NYC Terrorism Hotline at 1-888-NYC-SAFE, for imminent emergencies - dial 911.
Let us hope and pray, that we shall be spared from any terrorism, or any other disasters and that the Geulah should come our way.
